For 25 years, the Grand Union Orchestra has brought together top-class musicians from all over the world to create a wholly original form of music of its own.

For this event, some of those musicians, including South African Claude Deppa (trumpet and percussion), Australian Louise Elliott (tenor saxophone and flute) and tabla maestro Yousuf Ali Khan are joined by some of the musicians emerging from the ranks of the Grand Union Youth Orchestra to become the world music stars of tomorrow, including Gunes Cerit (saz, voice), Ketan Kerai (sarangi, dhol) and Jonathan André (voice, djembe), backed by the powerful rhythm section of Andres Lafone (bass guitar) and Dave Adams (drums).

The music is equally varied – from irresistible dance rhythms from Latin-America, the Caribbean, West Africa and even a touch of bhangra one moment, to heart-breaking songs from Turkey and the seductive beauty of Indian ragas the next – all enlivened with stunning jazz improvisation.

This is Grand Union’s début in this impressive new Shoreditch venue.  Visit the RichMix facebook page for this event.

“Nearly a quarter century on, Grand Union continues to evolve, making new, innovative music in a spirit of creative freedom.” – fRoots, June 1908
