Open Rehearsal weekend - Day one

St Johns Church , Bethnal Green

Established Grand Union Youth Orchestra members as well as new participants spent the day in public workshops as part of the “Open Rehearsal” weekend in celebration of launch of the cultural Olympiad.  Held in the impressive and imposing St Johns Church, Bethnal Green, invited guests as well as members of the passing public came to watch what happens during the creative process of a workshop.

Introduced into the orchestra were three talented young steel pan players as well as several young violinists and woodwind players.  Led by Tony Haynes and supported by Gerry Hunt, Claude Deppa and Yousuf Ali Khan this workshop encouraged new participants to improvise and work creatively with their instrument.

This day proved to be very popular indeed with upwards of 70 visitors, most of whom had not heard of the GUYO before.
