DAY 1: Introductory Workshop
Young people will be introduced to music from around the globe, getting a taste of the Youth Orchestra’s repetoire. Those who attend all four days will be given the opportunity to play at Stratford Circus to showcase what they have learn, alongside the high-profile professional musicians of the Grand Union Orchestra.

FROM SILK ROAD TO CARNIVAL is a one night spectacular show bringing together East London’s young musicians on a grand scale. The show celebrates the many musical styles that have come to the city over the years through trade and travel, exploding in a joyous celebration of the carnival spirit! - and we want you to be a part of it.

WHY TAKE PART?
Experience the thrill of performing in a prestigious venue and working with top authentic experts in world music.  Through free workshops, explore new musical ideas and styles including: samba, salsa, calypso, soca, reggae, ska, West African chant, Arabic and Turkish dance rhythms and songs, Indian classical ragas and talas, and Chinese folk songs.  Plus try your hand at improvising and mixing this all up with jazz.

HOW DO I TAKE PART?
Grand Union is running a series of workshops during the half term holiday to devise the show.  Suitable for young musicians with a good command of their instrument and also advanced players with more experience.  Reading music is not essential and non-western instruments are particularly encouraged.  There is no audition process, but please book in advance.  Don’t delay, get in touch to find out more about work by the Grand Union Youth Orchestra!
